Media Roots Radio: Watchmen, Syria Head Fake, Al Baghdadi Bloodlust

Abby and Robbie dispel some of the hype around the Joker movie and give a review of the politically charged Watchmen series. Mike Prysner from Eyes Left joins the show to go over the scandal in the latest Call of Duty depicting the “Highway of Death” as a Russian war crime. They then go over the timeline of Trump’s “troop withdrawal” from Syria, which was really just a rerouting of forces to the perpetual occupation of Iraq while keeping hundreds stationed to protect the oil fields in Syria. The episode closes out talking about the death of ISIS leader Al Baghdadi and the sickening ritualistic bloodlust surrounding these targeted assassinations.

Useful Idiots: Abby Martin on New Doc ‘Gaza Fights for Freedom’

In the latest episode of the Useful Idiots podcasts, Matt Taibbi and Katie Halper chat with guest Abby Martin on her experiences as an independent journalist in a culture that silences dissenting voices.

Martin’s debut film, Gaza Fights for Freedom, was filmed during the Great March of Return protests and the ensuing humanitarian crisis, both of which have been largely ignored by mainstream media. In the wake of the film’s release, Martin has been called both an Iranian agent and a propagandist by her critics. You can watch the documentary here.

Martin also weighs in on the role of third-party candidates and discusses the fallacy behind blaming them for poor voter turnout for the frontrunners.

Media Roots Radio: American Exceptionalism & American Innocence w/ Danny Haiphong

“Did the U.S. really “save the world” in World War II? Should black athletes stop protesting and show more gratitude for what America has done for them? Are wars fought to spread freedom and democracy? Or is this all fake news?

American Exceptionalism and American Innocence examines the stories we’re told that lead us to think that the U.S. is a force for good in the world, regardless of slavery, the genocide of indigenous people, and the more than a century’s worth of imperialist war that the U.S. has wrought on the planet.”
