In an era of rampant surveillance, government secrecy, and whistleblower crackdowns, more and more questions have arisen over the actions and intentions of the US government. But regardless of how doubtful we may be of its justifications, we’re taught to just accept the explanation that’s given.
And if we don’t – if we openly acknowledge the gaping holes – that makes us ‘conspiracy theorists’, a pejorative term that for years has been cast on those who have been bold enough to seek the truth.
Breaking the Set reports on when the term became an establishment tool to shut down critical thinking and how labeling truth-seekers as ‘conspiracy theorists’ damages democracy.

Abby,
With all due respect, the Boston bombing and Sandy Hook are extremely problematic and suspect, though my guess is that you would want more substantive, consistent, and verifiable information to take on the air. As with many of the “conspiracies,” a few absolutely unexplainable items — evidence the powers that be simply ignore when confronted with them– are enough to suggest strongly to me that something is amiss. I would bet a great deal of money that the two kids in Boston didn’t do it, and that Adam Lanza didn’t perpetrate Sandy Hook, based on evidence I’ve seen. However, the “broad brush” your guests speak of is a dangerous tool, too, for some of us to not splash ourselves with. I heard/read some good JFK researchers scoffing at 9/11 “truthers.” When Boston gets truly investigated — if it ever does — the state’s story just won’t stand up. And whether the children are gone or not, much of the rest of what happened at Sandy Hook was a false flag of some kind. I understand, again, that you can’t run with either of them, now. Anyway, keep up the good work.
I used to enjoy Maddow, but since I have heard her belittle people, like 9-11 seekers of truth and those who would criticize the Dim Party too much, I have ignored Maddow and relegated her to the cesspool of irrelevant faux news fantasy land.
My style of reporting is exactly what Abby does. I gravitate to investigators that are truly outside of the box of bullshit.
Great demolition job. I’d love to see you take her down on TV.
keep on fighting, girl
