Originally, Risperdal was intended for use as an atypical antipsychotic and was primarily given to patients with hallucinatory schizophrenia. Recently, there was a big scandal concerning Johnson & Johnson’s desire to find new uses for Risperdal and market the drug extensively–specifically, J&J wanted to build a psychiatric unit at a prominent children’s hospital exclusively to promote the drug and tout new uses for it. Look up “Johnson & Johnson Risperdal hearings” on any search engine and get a load of the news items.
