Love you guys and you're normally so right on but this piece suffers from apparent ignorance of a lot of relevant scholarship. To blame JFK for the assassination of Diem betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the dynamic between JFK and the CIA. Andy should read JFK: Why He Died and Why It Matters by James Douglass for starters. Much of what happened in Vietnam during his brief presidency happened DESPITE his opposition. And this article, inexcusably, has absolutely nothing to say about the evidence that indeed he intended to end US involvement, including National Security Action Memoranda that institutionalized his goal of withdrawing. Not trying to canonize JFK, but ending the Cold War was on the man's agenda, and that's essentially why he was killed. This site of all places ought to know that.
